About John Paul's Paint & Decor

John Paul’s Paint & Decor is named for two military veterans who inspired owner Dennis Hopkins, PsyD, MBA, to use the creativity of paint to achieve success in many other areas of his life.

Dennis’ father, Paul Hopkins, died when Dennis was six weeks old. Paul was serving in the U.S. Army Air Force in Biloxi, MS, at the time. A new mother and widow, Bernice Hopkins returned to the Kankakee area to raise Dennis with her family.

Dennis’ uncle, John Kisiel, who himself was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, was a painter by trade. After John’s death, learning from his uncle, Dennis painted for more than three decades, putting himself through college, earning both a doctorate in clinical psychology and an executive masters degree in business administration.

Dennis Hopkins

Founder and Owner

This store is dedicated in honor of these two great men, John Kisiel and Paul Hopkins, and all those who have been inspired because of them.

Dennis currently serves as the Executive Director of the Iroquois Mental Health Center, which is a long-standing non-profit with multiple locations serving four counties. Prior to his tenure at IMHC, he is the former Chief of Mental Health Services for the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Combining different areas of interests and training, Dennis uses psychology, color selection and creativity to develop fascinating decor at each of his offices that are functional for both social interaction and business.
